The unsuspected teenager’s life was changed by the words “And the winner of the 1985 Miss teen USA contest is Kelly Hu”. Kelly Hu was an ordinary girl from Hawaii, whose interests are ballet and karate. However, nowadays she is famous for being one of the Miss teen USA notable winners. She is currently known to reside in Brentwood (California) and have a rather active way of life.
Miss teen USA is a popular beauty contest for teenagers between fifteen and nineteen years of age. Among the most notable winners of this beauty contest are Kelly Hu, Bridgette Wilson, Allison Brown, Jamie Solinge, Ashley Coleman, Marissa Whitley and others.
Now let’s talk about one of the above-mentioned Miss teen USA contest notable winners Kelly Hu. She was born in the Honolulu (Hawaii) and has a mixed background of Hawaiian, Chinese and English ethnical features. During all her life she has been keen on music, singing and dancing. At the same time, it’s peculiar that she has been interested in various martial arts since the early years of her childhood. While she was interested in this activity, her younger brother would arrange for her the facilities to fight neighborhood boys. As a matter of fact, Kelly Hu has always dreamt of becoming one of the well-known notable winners of some famous beauty pageant. She was inspired by her cousin who worked as a successful model in Japan. Hu wanted to follow her example and become a popular star in the world of fashion modeling and a cover girl.
The first step of the young girl to gain a bit of publicity was entering the Miss teen USA beauty contest in 1985. In spite of the fact that during the contest interview Kelly Hu said “America was not ready for an Asian as such a prominent role model” she was voted the winner of the contest. As a matter of fact, she became the first Asian American girl to win the title of Miss teen USA and as a result she joined the ranks of the most notable winners of this beauty pageant. However, it was an irony for her to find out that she, as a winner, would not be able to appear in non-contest related activities during the year of her reign.
It’s curious to know that Kelly Hu worked later in Italy and Japan and soon became a well-known star of several advertisement series for Philadelphia brand cream cheese. In a couple of years she moved to Los Angeles and there began her career as an actress. She made her debut in 1987 when she was invited to guest star role in “The Growing Pains” (the sitcom). Later she performed in such series as “Tour of Duty,” “The Night Court,” “The 21st Jump Street,” “Melrose place.” Kelly Hu had her first film role in “Jason takes Manhattan” (in “Friday the 13th” eighth part).
Speaking about her further modeling career it’s interesting to know that in 1993 Kelly Hu became a winner of the Miss Hawaii contest and then was one of the finalists of Miss USA beauty pageant held in Wichita (Kansas City).
Among other achievements of Kelly Hu in acting were her roles in the movie “No way back” where she played an undercover police officer. In spite of the fact the movie wasn’t a major success it has opened a new path of the girl’s career, namely acting in adventure films.
She resides in Brentwood (Los Angeles, California) and owes there a restaurant “Basic Bites” (she is the co-owner). Thus, Kelly Hu is a bright personality, who at present is popular for her talent as an actress and a brilliant acting partner.
